Jake and Jordan were born in the winter of 2023, on a dairy farm, where male calves usually have one fate: early death. Thanks to the efforts of one woman, these boys were saved from slaughter, given attentive and aggressive medical treatment, and were released into sanctuary in April of 2023. Despite not being biological brothers, they are completely bonded, and Jake, who is two months younger than Jordan, looks to him for assurance, safety, and comfort. Though we wish they could be with their moms, they have formed a family with each other, and once they are big enough to join Otis and Bertie, they will have a large family of bachelor bovines to love.
Jordan is a true big brother to Jake, and since the day Jake was born Jordan has protected him. They have a special bond that defies description, and even though they are now part of a herd of four bachelors, and are part of a complete family, Jordan and Jake still prefer to be together. On the first day that we integrated them with the big steers, Jordan walked right up to Otis and pushed his head against the big man’s. Otis, a natural dad, let Jordan push him backwards as if saying, “Whoaa, you’re so strong!” While less gregarious than Jake, Jordan is happy to sit and think by himself, and is usually the first one to begin ruminating (or rumen-ating) after breakfast. He is our poet, our philosopher, our dreamer.
