Our turkey flock arrived as the result of a hoarding case; they were fortunate to be saved by another sanctuary and relocated to us in January 2022. As senior citizens, our turkeys enjoy sitting in the sun, singing along to music, and talking to each other about the goings-on in the pig barn, where they are happiest. People are often surprised to see that our turkeys are not the white broad-breasted turkeys often associated with domestic breeds, but our boys are definitely domestic and definitely could not survive in the wild. Bred for slaughter, they have large chests that prevent them from flight, and arthritis keeps them all from being able to flee from danger. Turkeys are curious, affectionate, and full of personality, and we are so grateful that these boys are living their golden years with us in peace.
